Scorpaena notata
One of the smaller members of the Scorpaena family, this species is of an intense red-orange color, rarely exceeding 20 cm in length. An easy fish to photograph, due to its ambush-hunting style, it remains still until one is within several centimeters of it. This one happened to be posing on the remains of a shipwreck in shallow waters on the outskirts of a fishing village of the northern Costa Brava.
