Nudibranquio Janolus cristatus (Janolus cristatus nudibranch)

I present to you one of the, in my opinion, two most breathtaking species of nudibranch in the Western Mediterranean, the Janolus cristatus.  In the past, we´d only seen those which were blue in body.  On Dec. 31st and Jan. 1st we found 4 orange ones.  Just gorgeous.  On the 31st, Juan and I found these two specimens.  If you compare them with their blue-bodied counterparts, you´ll find they´re identical in every way except for their body´s color.  Look closely at their rhinophores:  they have an upward spiraling, similar to that of a screw, instead of having rings.  Truly amazing.  Juan and I found these at a depth of about 13,5 meters, with a water temperature of 11ºC (51.8ºF).  Enjoy their beauty!

Os presento una de las, en mi opinión, especias más increíbles de nudibranquio en el Mediterráneo Occidental, el Janolus cristatus.  En el pasado, solo habíamos encontrado ejemplares con el cuerpo azul.  Encontramos 4 ejemplares anaranjados los días 31.12 y 01.01 en nuestro sitio preferido para buscar nudis.  ¡Espectaculares!  Si los comparáis con sus primos azulados, encontraréis que son idénticos en todo menos en el color de su cuerpo.  Mirad fijamente a sus rinóforos:  tienen un espiral hacia arriba, parecido al de un tornillo, en vez de tener anillos.  Verdaderamente formidable.  Juan y yo los encontramos a una profundidad de unos 13,5 metros, con 11ºC la temperatura del agua.  ¡Disfrutad de su belleza!
