Octopus vulgaris (Common octopus)

This has to be the largest octopus I´ve ever seen.  We estimate that, stretched out, it would measure over 6 feet across.  For the Mediterranean, it´s a monster.  The photos aren´t as good as I´d have liked, but it was hunkered down in its cave/den and it was very difficult to get the proper angle for the flash to illuminate it properly.  It´s tentacles were the circumference of my upper arm, around 13", and its suckers were the size of a U.S. quarter coin.  Look at its propulsion tubes:  huge!  This animal could do some serious damage if it chose to.  And it was only 33 feet deep.

Este ha de ser el pulpo más grande que he visto en mi vida.  Calculamos que, extendido, mediría más de 1´80m.  Para el Mediterráneo es un monstruo.  Las fotos no son tan nítidas como hubiera querido, pero estaba en su guarida y fue muy difícil buscar el ángulo adecuado para el flash.  La circunferencia de sus tentáculos eran como mi la parte superior de mi brazo (32 cm), y sus ventosas eran del tamaño de una moneda española vieja de 25 pesetas, o como una moneda de 25 centavos U.S.  Mirad a sus tubos de propulsión:  ¡enormes!  Podría hacer un daño importante si quisiera.  Y solo estaba a una profundidad de 10 metros.
