Marthasterias glacialis

One of the largest, if not the largest, starfish in the Mediterranean.  Called the Common Starfish or Spiny starfish, it is anything but common.  Generally, in the NW Mediterranean they are between 25-45 cm across, and their spines are a formidable-looking weapon.  If you click to zoom in on it you'll see some remarkable detail.  A spectacular starfish.
